Song of the Day #1: THE FELICE BROTHERS – Cus’s Catskill Gym/Stepdad/River Jordan + Frankie’s Gun

Today’s one of those days where the planets went out of line, shifted my day unexpectedly, put me under a tight design deadline (gasp!) but because of that ended up morphed into one full of synchronicity and then realigning into a very cool one. Not that all of that means anything to you, except that all that good juju is forcing me post up a slew of songs of the day, some of my favorites, to celebrate/revel in the energy.

First one, amidst all of the Top 10 and Top 20 albums of the year so far posts all over the internet via music mags, I am posting up my own Top 1 Album of the Year so far…easily The Felice Brothers album Celebration, Florida. This is a video shot at the show Ady and I attended very recently: I still haven’t come down from the epic adventure (nor do I expect to anytime soon so don’t look for me).

The first and third songs here (Cus’s Catskill Gym and River Jordan) are from Celebration. And, as I’ve promised, a full review of the Mauch Chunk Opera House show in Jim Thorpe along with a large collection of photos from Ady and I, aka team Two Sisters and a Show, is in the works. Until then…

Crazy fun encore, Frankie’s Gun, featuring G Farley’s crazy-tastic washboarding and a stage invasion!

Song of the Day: JOE STRUMMER & THE MESCALEROS – Mondo Bongo

I thought this song would be an appropriate choice today for several reasons. First, in a few days it will be 8 years since the world lost Joe Strummer, so I’ll be dedicating the Song of the Day feature this entire week with songs from his catalogue, both solo and with The Clash et al. Second, today is “Mondo Instante” day on the blog, and I thought there’d be no better choice for a song, title-y speaking. Finally, one of our very active blog community members, the amazing and lovely Mecha from Argentina, learned a few days ago that she successfully passed all of her college courses and graduated yesterday! I had been in touch with her during the days and weeks leading up to the exams while she was studying so hard, and I’m so proud of her. She’s a fellow Clash/Joe Strummer fan (and especially loves this song), so I’d like to dedicate today’s music clip to her! Felicitaciones Mecha! Congrats! Abrazos! Hugs! Abbracci!!
