MI19 Project Announcement | Special Newport Folk Festival edition of Mondo Instante

Greetings earthlings, it’s time for another round of Mondo Instante! This one is rather special, as it will be a Mental Beans/Sisters Dissonance hosted event that will take place while Ady and I are at the Newport Folk Festival in Newport, Rhode Island. We are asking festival goers to join us for this round.

Veterans of the MI project, you know what to do! Look below for the date and the time specific to your time zone to find out when you need to take your photo and submission information.

Welcome and thank you for looking further into this project! We hope you will join in by taking a photo at the predetermined date and time, and submit it to be included in the Mondo Instante 19 online photo exhibition. Instructions how to participate follow, but first a little bit of background on the project:

Mondo Instante (MI) is a global photography experiment that has been running monthly since October of 2010. It is a synchronized, time-specific global photography event that only lasts only one minute.

When an event is announced, the date and time is given in UTC time and is then converted for local times for it’s participants all around the world. At the specified MI event time, participants take a photo of where they are/what they are doing or seeing at that exact moment. Photos can be pre-planned, or they can be totally off the cuff (often much more fun!).

The idea is to create, for just a brief moment in time, little windows into each of the lives of the participants, who are located all around the world. The photo taking and subsequent viewing is great fun, but just as captivating is that feeling of unity, however brief, that is caused by the simultaneous anticipation that comes with taking part in a coordinated global event. For anyone new who has stumbled upon the project, or has been invited by someone, all information about the project can be found here on the Mondo Instante info page.

In a nutshell Mondo Instante (MI) is a synchronized and very time-specific global photography event. Watch for the posts here and on Facebook for the announcement of the date and time of the event. The time is given in UTC time information and then is then converted for local times across the globe. When the specified MI event time arrives, take a photo of where you are/what you are doing/seeing at that exact moment. Then send the photo in as soon as you can (deadline will be posted with the announcement) to mentalbeans (at) tuliptreestudios (dot) com and your photo will appear on the Mental Beans! blog and on our Flickr gallery in a group exhibition soon after.

I need to draw! (LP Project Announcement)

I need to draw . . . so do you.

I’ve been swept up in a multitude of projects, and jobs, both mundane and fun, but they’ve been keeping me from sitting down with my ink pens and watercolors far too long. We’ve got Mondo Instante to keep us busy, but it’s been quite some time since the last group project involving other medium besides photography.

So, off the cuff I’m going to put this out there. I’m going to do it because, like I said, I need to draw! I feel something brewing so I’m turning to Mental Beans to kick me in the pants and motivate me. If you want to join in, all the better, we can turn it into a group project. I’m going to call this one LP.

Project Guidelines:
Select one album that you will listen to as you create whatever it is you create…a painting, an illustration, a photo or series of photos, a 3-d piece, jewelry, food, collage, whatever it is you’re inspired to do. Listen, create and then document. Interpret these rules any way you see fit—whether you directly respond to the album, or if you use it simply to set your mind free to create. When you’re done, take a photo or photos of your finished work, include what album you worked to, any words about it, and your name and location. Send to mentalbeans (at) tuliptreestudios (dot) com.

Due date is April 15th. If you plan on joining in this project, shoot me a message, a comment here or send a note in a bottle just so I have an idea of who is participating. All finished pieces will be posted in a group project post here on Mental Beans shortly after all entries are in my hands (sometime the week of April 16th).
