Drunken Balordi cd half way home!

If you have a good memory you’ll know that I recently launched the Perpetual Creative Energy feature to this blog in celebration of the blog’s first year of existence. What that means is, every so often when we do a group project,  there will be a little giveaway to one lucky participant. To acquire these giveaways either I will take a portion of the funds I have received through sales of my prints and put them towards purchasing music, books, artwork etc., or if I come across any one willing to donate items  (please contact me if you have something you’d like to share!), I will then randomly give away these items to those who participate in the projects that are part of PCE. A little something to keep the creativity flowing, inspired, and reciprocated!

This first time around, I invited readers to share their thoughts and ideas for the coming year via comments, and from those that did, I set up a little device in which a winner was chosen via a suction cup dart gun. The result was an off-the-cuff video and Silvia from Rimini, Italy being chosen as the victorious one.

The prize? Well, it ended up being much more than I had ever hoped when I conceived the idea of PCE, and Billy King, lead singer-songwriter/guitarist of Drunken Balordi generously offered up a copy of their first cd, signed by the band specifically for this project. I received the cd in the mail late last week and it’s here after making a long trip across the seas. It’s traveled from Brixton, London England to my hometown here in Cleveland, Ohio in the states, and will be headed back out to Rimini by the week’s end. I tried to google map it’s journey but alas found out that google does not know how to calculate distance (or directions) across the Atlantic Ocean, fancy that! So the best I have found is that from London to Cleveland is the better part of 4,000 miles, and to Rimini from here it’s about 4,500. On it’s way back to Europe it will be traveling with the suction cup dart that chose Silvia’s name, as I have been told she has developed a fondness for this dart since it was kind enough to seek her name out! Perhaps it needs a name.

That said, extra special thanks to Billy King and the rest of the Balordi boys for signing the cd and sending it off for this project, it’s quite a pleasure for the first give away to be a Drunken Balordi special!

To celebrate all this, here’s the video clip that I stumbled upon last year that lead me to become more than just a casual Drunken Balordi fan in the first place:

And here is the follow up interview I did with Billy, if you missed it when it was first posted, check it out, it’s a great read:

If you didn’t know, Mondo Instante #4 was designated as a PCE project, and the giveaway item is on it’s way…now to choose who gets it! I’ll have information on that tomorrow, and I’ll be asking for reader participation in helping me decide who it will be!

Drunken, Twisted Radio!

Last night at about 3:20am GMT, a shot was heard ’round the world. Actually, it was more of a ring, but it was no less as attention getting, and definitely a moment in time to remember.

As promised, Billy King telephoned in to Twisted South Radio, and for a a short spell, Brixton came to Texas and then ricocheted back to Philadelphia, and then on to Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and to Italy, Ireland, Argentina and beyond. We were all there connected in various way via bits and bytes and electronic blips, talking (thanks Billy, Mars, and Zeke for the great conversation), listening together (Mercedes in Argentina, Marianne in Rome, Amy in Pittsburgh, friends in near and far flung places), cheering and celebrating the moment together. Ah the wonders of technology. If you weren’t there, that moment still resides in the Twisted South Radio podcast archives and you can hear or download it whenever you want, but don’t miss it.

For some immediate musical gratification, here’s a clip of Drunken Balordi with this live version of “Alabama Czardas” from this year’s Eden Fest.
