Multi Kulti Pandora’s Vase Vol 10

Friday greetings, and a very special edition of Multi Kulti Pandora’s Vase, as our host is celebrating her 50th birthday with a DJ set, complete with Marianne herself on the decks tonight in her hometown of Rome, Italy. Buongiorno!   Hello again from Rome, where  I just woke up after having celebrated whit my family yesterday, my  official arrival in the age of the adult youth  … haha yes, I’ve reach the enormous and feared 50 summers, witch means that I’m old enough to consider myself a professional, even if messy, life enjoyer, therefore, this week, I had no time to prepare the usual Blog,  and chose instead to give  you,  towards  Pandora’s vase…… a peep into my B-day party,  which starts about 10.30 pm…italian time -

GADJO DROME, is my  Balkan/roma music project, started bout a year and half ago, and finally seam to have found it’s home, in a  squatt/social point –  SANS  PAPIERS  in the center of cyty, together whit an upcomming radio- RADIOSONAR…. we are now at the second international event -   and cant think of a better place for my party.   There’s a lot of related vidoes in there .

I have to say, this week flew by so fast I’m sort of hanging on the tails of Thursday which, without me really being aware of the date change, dropped me off into Friday! That’s a good thing for many reasons, one of which is Marianne’s weekly feature, the 9th installment of her extremely enjoyable Multi Kulti Pandora’s Vase, which brings us our supply of the best in balkan/gypsy/Roma music. This week, another feature focusing on one artist via his very entertaining 2010 video Tour Diary. Enjoy it, share it, dance to it!

Hi, back on this First friday of spring, and will this time tell you a story about an amazing caracter, he is ERIK MUT. He forms his band WORLDLY SAVAGES in Toronto – Canada, where he’s born in an emigrated family, whit roots in Bratislava…and 4 or 5 difrent blood lines he is an incredible explosion of life and  a true urban poet of his era.

Rome calling! As has become a weekly tradition, I am handing the blog over to Marianne for her Friday post, hand picked selections of gypsy/punk/Roma/balkan music. As always, I am thrilled for her to be sharing with us her knowledge and expertise of this genre of music, and also for taking the time to put together a post every week. Thank you Marianne!

BUONGIORNO FRIDAY
This week yet another Another week, pointing out one single artist, the most eclectic of them all, EUGENE  HUTZ —unstoppable lead singer of GOGOL BORDELLO, and talented actor . . . after he ended in up in Vermont,  he started a Punk band called THE FAGS, whit whom he made 2 albums, here is a song from a gig in the home town Burlington

He formed Gogol Bordello in NYC, and started to make a new kind of music, mixed by Punk and traditional instruments, like violin and accordion, got on the stage crazy and lovely looking young ladies, and called the new thing GYPSY PUNK…..

In 2005 he was ALEX, in EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED, a must see film, if I should choose only 1 fave film, it would be this. In this scene ALEX the tourist guide, and his Jewish client, has their first meal together:

At the time he was making the film, in Prague, he met a girl….. a film maker, and they spendt some time together…….

She fell deeply in love…and wanted to make a film about him, a biography, where they traveled through eastern europe, looking for his roots, and visiting gypsy camps, and theater directors..and all the way to Siberia, to meet his Icon Sascha Kolpakov, this clipè shows a jam in a Carpatian Gypsy camp.
